If I got that studbucker in the bridge and had your guitar I would pair it with a hotter, 70s style strat pickup, like the Lace Sensor Silver or hot gold if I wanted to be a little more 60s. SD makes a humbucker called the stag mag which is the same idea but I like manlius cuz it's a hand wound pickup for $95 and he'll make adjustments custom for you like if you want it hotter for example. He knows his stuff and if you tell him what you want he will come up with the right thing. The trick with this pickup is that it uses the kind of magnets that fender single coils use (how the metal is cut) which (to me) made it sound more fendery. I had one in the neck of a jaguar I had because I wanted to retain some of the "fender-ness" of the guitar in the neck and middle positions with a contrasting, more traditional sounding humbucker in the bridge. Easy for a pickup that size to sound thin, a bit tougher to sound thick.įor the humbucker i would recommend the stud bucker from manlius. The way I would look at it is do I want a thin tone or a thick tone since that's gonna be the biggest difference. You always can look up the spec of the pickup and measure your guitar.Īs for what one to get, it really depends on what your bridge pickup is and what kind of tone you want out of the neck. I can very well be wrong, but on modern mustangs and duo sonics, a standard strat sized single coil will fit. The Duo-Sonic has mustang pickups in it I believe.
